I was born in Lethbridge, Alberta in 1984, and moved to the Comox Valley in 1993 with my family. After graduating from Highland Secondary in 2002, I went on to attend Vancouver Island University and the University of Calgary, focusing on Political Science and International Relations.

At twenty-one, I took an offer for a summer internship in the Republic of Kazakhstan working for a local drilling company and soon worked my way up to Field Superintendent overseeing a field staff of four hundred personnel in a remote camp. In the following years, I spent time both in the Comox Valley, Calgary and Kazakhstan working for several large engineering and energy companies focussing on project and supply chain management.

Deciding to strike out on our own, my wife Jennifer and I took ownership of a Calgary based drilling company who had recently sold their major assets overseas and reorganized it as a consulting firm providing training, management, and parts support to overseas operations. With a team of twenty hardy Canadians, we worked to train the new Kazakh owners to safely operate, supply, and maintain their newly purchased equipment.

I moved on to take on a role as Country Manager for a Canadian Construction and Heavy Equipment company based out of Victoria BC with operations in Kazakhstan. Overseeing a staff of six-hundred expatriate and local personnel through a severely depressed energy market, our team managed to improve efficiencies and tighten our belts while continuing to balance profitability and employee satisfaction.

After a successful run of almost twelve years rotating between time in the Comox Valley, and overseas, my wife Jennifer and I agreed that it was time to start a family here in the Comox Valley which we have always considered home. Our son Lochlan turns 3 this year, and I am now working in a management role at Hyland Precast in Cumberland; we couldn’t be happier to finally be living full time in the place we love.

My career has not been traditional, but I have taken every opportunity in stride and looked at every challenge as an opportunity. I build teams based on respect and am never shy of consulting the experts to get sound advice to make the best decisions possible. I am a strong believer that free enterprise combined with fiscally sound monetary policy does the best job of ensuring our social safety net has the resilience to weather any storm.

Now, more than ever, we need leadership that addresses our current challenges.
