The federal government has ruled out a new tax on home equity – but key allies of the BC NDP aren’t giving up on making it a reality.
It’s been revealed that Paul Kershaw, the UBC professor who has influenced key NDP policies on housing and childcare, is pushing hard for a home equity tax that would add thousands of dollars in new taxes every year for middle-class homeowners.
John Horgan’s NDP have already added 23 new or increased taxes. With their budget deficit skyrocketing to at least $12.5 billion, it’s just a matter of time before they find new ways to tax British Columbians.
