Stephanie Cadieux

Surrey South Candidate

Today’s BC Liberals have acclaimed incumbent MLA for Surrey-Cloverdale Stephanie Cadieux as the 2017 candidate for the new provincial riding of Surrey South.

“Surrey continues to be one of the fastest growing communities in Canada,” says Cadieux. “As a result, the Electoral Boundaries Commission has given Surrey an additional seat in the legislature, which I am proud to run for as the BC Liberal candidate in Surrey South.”

“I’ve lived in this part of the riding for 14 years, and I’m looking forward working with my colleagues and fellow candidates from the neighbouring Surrey ridings to ensure that our communities continue to have strong representation in Victoria.”

First elected in 2009, Cadieux has been Minister of Children and Family Development since 2012. Over the past seven years she has also served as Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development, Minister of Labour, Citizen Services, and Open Government, and Minister of Social Development.

Prior to provincial politics, Cadieux worked with the BC Paraplegic Association as director of marketing and development, and was the Manager of Accessibility for 2010 Legacies Now. Cadieux has been a longtime active volunteer, serving as President of the Realwheels Society, as a member of the advisory panel with International Collaboration on Repair Discoveries (ICORD), and as a mentor with the Y.W.C.A.

“These are certainly exciting times for British Columbia and Surrey, and whether it’s working to improve transit, creating more jobs in our growing economy, balancing budgets, or building new schools, there’s still more to do,” added Cadieux. “I’m very excited to have the opportunity to run once again under the leadership of Premier Christy Clark.”
