John Yap

Richmond -Steveston Candidate

Today’s BC Liberals have acclaimed three-term MLA John Yap as the Party’s candidate in Richmond-Steveston for the upcoming provincial election on May 9, 2017.

“I’m honored to stand for re-election in Richmond-Steveston,” said Yap. “I’m looking forward to running again because I want to ensure that Richmond-Steveston continues to grow so that we can build a better future for our families, businesses, and our next generation.”

“British Columbia is leading Canada in economic growth and job creation. We’re balancing our budget, and making record investments in the services we all depend on. I’m particularly proud of our government’s approach to helping families directly with such programs as the Single Parent Employment Initiative, which helps single parents receiving income or disability assistance to receive training and support to find a long-term job.”

Yap currently serves as Parliamentary Secretary for Liquor Reform Policy to the Minister of Small Business, Red Tape Reduction and Minister Responsible for the Liquor Distribution Branch. He also serves on the Cabinet Committee for a Strong Economy, the Cabinet Committee for Legislative Review, the Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services, and the Special Committee to Review the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

Previously, Yap served as Minister of Advanced Education, Innovation and Technology, Minister Responsible for Multiculturalism, and Minister of State for Climate Action.
