John Rustad

Nechako Lakes Candidate

John Rustad is the BC Liberal candidate for Nechako Lakes in the 2017 provincial election. He was first elected as MLA in 2005, and re-elected in 2009 and 2013.

Rustad served as Parliamentary Secretary for Forestry before his appointment as Minister of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation in 2013. He also sits on the Cabinet Committee on Strong Economy and the Environment and Land Use Committee.

Prior to entering politics, Rustad worked in the forest industry for more than 20 years. In 1995, he formed Western Geographic Information Systems Inc., a consulting service to the forest industry. Rustad was also elected as a school trustee in 2002, where he worked on a variety of innovative projects.

Throughout his career, Rustad has been a strong voice and advocate for economic development and fiscal responsibility, and he believes the BC Liberals are the only option for British Columbia to stay on track as a leader in economic growth and job creation.

Born and raised in Prince George, Rustad has lived all of his life in northern B.C. He grew up enjoying fishing and hunting. In 2009, he and his wife Kim moved to Cluculz Lake, where they experience the peace and beauty of rural living.

“Nechako Lakes is a region of opportunity. I am grateful to be a part of these communities and to work for my constituents every day. We are working hard to build a stronger British Columbia, and I truly believe that it’s only under Premier Christy Clark’s leadership that we can continue to do that.” – John Rustad
