Recap: Extraordinary Convention 2015

It’s official. After over a year and a half of rigorous debate and thorough consultation (many meetings, webinars, coffees and email exchanges), we have finally adopted a new constitution for the BC Liberal Party.

Our co-chairs, committee members, and staff were thrilled to see our Extraordinary Convention come together so smoothly – so thanks to the hundreds of delegates for joining us, and to all those who worked tirelessly in undertaking this massive task.

I know that for some, voting on a new constitution doesn’t seem like a very exciting way to spend a sunny Saturday. But, the fact is that our Saturday meeting was incredibly pivotal for our party.

Just like everything else in this ever-changing world, we need to modernize to compete and succeed. And that’s exactly what we did in Cranbrook, Duncan, Fort St. John, Kamloops, Kelowna, Prince George and Vancouver: we reset the foundation on which we build campaigns, recruit candidates, and share our values with BC voters. And because of this, we’re more prepared than ever to tackle our next task: Platform 2017.

As the Premier said on Saturday: “We, as BC Liberals, are about the future. We are going to shape the future. We are going to grasp the future – and we are going to shape it into something that is going to make British Columbia better.” Armed with a new constitution, and the inspiring words of our keynote speaker Dominic Barton, we’re confident that we’re ready to do just that.

But don’t just take our word for it. Make sure you watch (or re-watch!) the Premier’s message in the link above. And be sure to share with your friends and family!
