Mathew Wilson takes BC Liberal nomination for Powell River-Sunshine Coast

SECHELT, BC- Today’s BC Liberals have acclaimed Mathew Wilson as the 2017 candidate for Powell River-Sunshine Coast.

“I am honoured to be a member of Premier Christy Clark’s team, working to build a strong and diverse economy to put British Columbians first,” said Wilson. “It’s time to bring people together and find common ground to achieve results for the constituents of this riding, who for too long have been under-represented in Victoria.”

“My primary focus for the region will be on coastal economic development, affordable housing, and transportation infrastructure.”

Wilson has more than 15 years of experience working in Ottawa with the federal government. He was raised in Pender Harbour and now lives with his young family in Roberts Creek.

Since returning to the Sunshine Coast, Wilson has commuted to Vancouver to work with the Department of Indigenous and Northern Affairs, initially as a federal representative at residential school hearings, facilitating reconciliation. He now works with BC First Nations on economic development opportunities in BC’s resource sector.

“Working to resolve residential school claims was some of the most challenging and rewarding work I’ve had the privilege to do. To represent Canada and Canadian values in rebuilding trust with First Nations within the spirit of reconciliation was not only a huge responsibility, but an immense honour.”

‎Wilson is running in the same riding that his father Gordon Wilson represented from 1991 until 2001 provincially. He joins a team of 61 BC Liberal candidates nominated province-wide.

British Columbians head to the polls on May 9, 2017.
