Encouraging more charitable giving with a tax credit increase

Today’s BC Liberals will help boost donations to registered charities by increasing the tax credit for charitable giving, Vancouver-Point Grey candidate James Lombardi announced on Sunday.

“It’s about encouraging people to give to charity, because it can change people’s lives,” said James Lombardi, candidate for Today’s BC Liberals in Vancouver-Point Grey. “Vancouver is home to a number of organizations that make a real difference, and if this change will spur more giving in the province, it’s more than worth it.”

If re-elected, the next BC Liberal government will increase the value of the tax credit for charitable donations to a maximum value of $500 on the first $1,100.

This change would build on recent investments made under Today’s BC Liberals, including:

  • $5 million to Canuck Place to help support families across the province
  • $5-million to the BC SPCA for the initial stages of Phase 2 of its facilities plan
  • $10 million to Food Banks BC to help food banks receive, store and distribute fresh, healthy food to those in need.
