SURREY-WHITE ROCK – The BC Liberals are continuing the party’s renewal and preparing for a potential by-election in Surrey-White Rock, with the opening of the nomination process for potential candidates in the riding.

This decision by the party’s election readiness committee, made in consultation with the local riding association, means that potential candidates may now apply for candidacy and complete the due diligence process. The timeline and process for candidate selection remain to be determined.

“The potential by-election in Surrey-White Rock is an exciting opportunity to connect with residents, get their feedback, and share our plan to kickstart BC’s economic recovery,” said Andrew Wilkinson, BC Liberal leader. “While the pandemic will change how our campaign is run, we will take nothing for granted and work hard for every vote. We look forward to welcoming the next BC Liberal MLA to our team, where they’ll build on Tracy Redies’ great contributions.”

“For more than three years, the NDP have failed to live up to their promises to the people of Surrey,” said Stephanie Cadieux, BC Liberal MLA for the neighbouring constituency of Surrey South. “New taxes and fees have made life less affordable, small businesses are struggling to survive, and the NDP still don’t have an economic recovery plan. The BC Liberals can and will do better – and working hard to win the Surrey-White Rock by-election is the first step.”

Incumbent BC Liberal MLA Tracy Redies announced last week she will resign effective August 31 to pursue a new career opportunity. A by-election must be called within six months, unless the NDP trigger a general election ahead of the scheduled date in October 2021.
