The Facts on Seniors Care: NDP and Union friends Dishonest
The HEU, one of the NDP's biggest donors, has launched a series of dishonest partisan ads aimed at scaring seniors. Here are the facts on seniors care:
- Since 2001, the BC Liberal Government has increased funding for seniors care by 44 per cent to over $2.25 billion per year.
- As of September 2008 the BC Liberal Government had built 5,424 net new residential care beds, assisted living and supportive housing units, and replaced another 6,327 across BC – that's 11,751 new beds in total.
- As a result, the BC Liberal Government has been able to dramatically reduce wait times to access residential care from an average of 1 year in 2001, to an average of 30 – 90 days today.
- The majority of BC Seniors in residential care now pay among the lowest rates in Canada.
- Approximately 71 per cent of all home support recipients pay absolutely nothing at all.
