The Facts on Education: NDP and Big Union Friends Dishonest
The BCTF has launched a partisan $1 million misinformation campaign in advance of the provincial election. The ads incorrectly claim that the government has increased class size and cut supports for students. Here are the real facts:
- Government funding for education is at its highest level ever, $5.67 billion a 23 per cent increase since 2001.
- Since 2001 the BC Liberal Government has opened 73 brand new schools and funded 147 major additions despite student enrolment declining by nearly 50,000 students.
- The BC Liberal Government put class size limits in law. As a result, today students enjoy one of the lowest student-teacher ratios ever recorded.Special needs funding is at its highest level ever. We now fully fund special needs students at independent schools giving parents more choice in their child's education.
