Today on CKNW NDP candidate Bruce Ralston continued the NDP’s failed defence of their $412 million flaring gas tax problem.
Bruce Ralston stated on CKNW today:
“The report they were based on used the term flaring and fugitive emissions interchangeably. So I don’t think it was really a mistake in that sense.”
“It didn’t apply to flaring only. It applied to flaring and fugitive emissions . But in that report the author used those two terms interchangeably.”
Not according to the report’s author, Ben Parfitt of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives. Mr. Parfitt recently stated in the Tyee that “We reported flared and otherwise wasted gas”. “The sources cited clearly indicated that flaring was part of the number and not the whole number..... this was stated several times throughout the report.”
If Mr. Ralston had bothered to read the report or even contact the author before introducing a $412 million tax on industry he would have known this. To suggest that flaring and fugitive emissions are the same thing again proves that the NDP does not even have a basic understanding of B.C.’s oil and gas sector.
British Columbians simply can’t afford the NDP’s reckless and irresponsible policies, or the continuing failed defenses of those policies.
