April 27, 2009Carole James took time out today to make her first visit to Vancouver’s historic Chinatown where she promised new funds for the community’s revitalization.
We assume this was her first visit, because if she had been there before she surely would have known that just over one year ago
Premier Gordon Campbell announced $10 million towards the City of Vancouver’s Great Beginnings: Old Streets, New Pride program to revitalize the community’s historic neighbourhoods, including Chinatown.
What Carole James neglected to tell that community was that she and her NDP caucus actually voted against every dollar of that revitalization funding – just as they voted against the hundreds of millions of dollars that has flowed to Vancouver through new affordable housing, healthcare facilities, schools, and municipal grants such as 100 per cent of traffic fine revenues.
If the residents of Chinatown couldn’t count on Carole James and the NDP to stand up and vote in favour of those funds when it mattered in the Legislature, why should they trust them today?
