Getting criminals off our streets and into prison where they belong is our number one priority. Since 2001, our record on tough action on crime has been clear and direct, yet the NDP vote against every single attempt to put more resources into community safety:
- The BC Liberals have put more than 950 additional police officers onto the streets, but the NDP voted against the initiative.
- Working with police forces across the lower mainland, we created the Uniformed Gang Task Force to put more officers into direct street-level patrol for gang activity. And again, the NDP voted against the plan.
- We created PRIME – a data management tool to track criminal activity – and the NDP said 'no'.
- The BC Liberal government has returned more the $200 million in traffic fines to communities to be reinvested in policing and crime prevention, and the NDP opposed it.
- In August, 2008, government announced plans to build a new pre-trial centre in Burnaby that will keep criminals off the street while waiting for trial, but the NDP are actively lobbying against the facility
While the NDP make lots of noise about their support for getting tough on crime, their record is clear: They are all talk, and no action.
