VICTORIA – Premier Gordon Campbell released the following statement today congratulating B.C.’s Steve Nash, who was voted the National Basketball Association’s MVP for the second consecutive year.
“I know all British Columbians join me in congratulating Steve Nash as he joins a small group of basketball stars who have won the league MVP honour twice in a row. After being the first Canadian ever to be named MVP, to win the honour twice is a testament to the skill, dedication and sportsmanship that have defined his career since he started playing here in Victoria.
“While we’re all proud that one of B.C.’s own has excelled at the elite level of his sport, we’re equally proud that he has done so with a reputation for selfless play and true spirit of sportsmanship. Through projects like his Steve Nash Foundation to help kids grow up healthy, he is a positive presence both on and off the court, and we wish Steve all the best through the current NBA playoffs and well into the future.”
