Premier Urges Youth to Connect and ‘Get out the Vote’

VANCOUVER – Premier Gordon Campbell urged over 1,200 under-40 professionals attending a networking event tonight to join him in making Canada’s largest-ever call to ‘get out the vote’ for the May 12 provincial election.

“No matter which candidate or party you vote for, it’s critical for all eligible voters to get out and cast their ballot on May 12,” said Premier Campbell. “Young British Columbians are more connected now than ever before. They can spread the word about the importance of getting out to vote through social networks, e-mail and text messages as well as by phone. I’m asking all British Columbians to use those tools to encourage others to vote on May 12 and cast their ballot for the team they feel is best to keep B.C. strong.”

Premier Campbell asked everyone attending the event to use social media to encourage their friends and colleagues to vote, and to join him at noon on May 11 in sending a text message or e-mail to as many friends as possible, saying: “On May 12, it’s our future. Please vote. Pass it on.”

“This is the most important election in a generation. British Columbians are asking themselves which team is best to lead our province through these challenging economic times,” said Premier Campbell. “We are fortunate to live in a place where we get to choose our government with a simple ballot. I urge everyone to get involved, make your voice heard and to join us in getting out the vote next week.”
