Open Platform Asks British Columbians to Help Keep BC Strong

WHISTLER - British Columbians can take an active role in keeping B.C. strong by helping shape the policies and priorities of the BC Liberal Party for the 2009 provincial election through Canada’s first ‘Open Platform’, Premier Gordon Campbell announced today.
“We are asking British Columbians what they want for their communities and their province and to tell us their ideas on how to make that future a reality,” said Premier
Campbell. “The Open Platform is an opportunity for people in every part of the province to share their opinions, thoughts and ideas on how we can build on the incredible progress B.C. has made over the past seven years and make our province even stronger for the future.”
The BC Liberal Open Platform will give British Columbians the chance to give input on how to build B.C.’s economy, health care, education, social housing, public safety and other vital public services.
By logging onto the Open Platform, users can select a range of policy areas where they will find issues and challenges that face British Columbia today. They can choose any or all policy areas and make immediate suggestions on how it can be improved. Participants can participate in regular online surveys and register for web panels, social networking and digital townhall forums.
British Columbians will also be able to submit their videos, photos, art and music that showcase the beauty, strength and diversity of our province and its people and cultures. Many of those submissions will be featured on the web site and during the 2009 provincial election campaign.
“There’s no question B.C. has come far since 2001. We have new hospitals, new universities, new medical schools, record job creation and economic growth,” said Premier Campbell. “British Columbians are optimistic about the future and have ideas for how we can maintain that prosperity and at the same time strengthen the services and programs that support families and communities.”
