Individuals & Small Business Form Foundation of BC Liberals Contributors in 2006

VANCOUVER - Individuals and small business dominate the fully disclosed list of BC Liberal contributors for 2006, BC Liberal Director of Communications & Membership Services Chad Pederson said today.

"We're very pleased with the diversity of our contributors from the 2006 fiscal year," said Pederson.  "Both individuals and small business have stepped up in large numbers to say they want to continue the progress B.C.'s seen under the leadership of Premier Gordon Campbell and the BC Liberal Team."

Monday was the deadline for all registered political parties to file their annual financing reports with Elections BC.  As in previous years, the BC Liberal Party is releasing summaries of political contributors prior to their full disclosure by Elections BC.  The disclosure shows that 79% of total contributors to the BC Liberal Party were individuals in 2006.

"The share of our individual donations was up seven-percent versus all other categories this past year," said Pederson.  "We rely on individuals to make the BC Liberal Party successful and this increase shows we're on the right track."

Small business also backed the BC Liberal Party in large numbers in 2006, with over sixty-percent of all business donations totaling $1000 or less.

"Small business is a big part of the B.C. economy and they're a big part of our party," said Pederson.  "Our economy is growing strong, jobs are being created in all regions, and small business is showing they want that success to carry on for years to come by supporting the BC Liberal Party."

The BC Liberals raised $5.26 million in 2006.  Full versions of all party financing reports will be available for public inspection at the office of the Chief Electoral Officer and on Election BC's web site starting at 9 a.m. on Thursday, April 5, 2007.
