The B.C. Liberal government has made over 100 tax cuts since 2001. As a result, British Columbia now has the lowest provincial income taxes in Canada for everyone earning up to $116,000 and a quarter-million low-income British Columbians pay no provincial income tax. On average, taxpayers in B.C. have seen the amount of provincial income tax they pay cut by 30-75 per cent since 2001. Challenges and Opportunities:
The B.C. Liberal Party believes in cutting taxes where possible to put money back in people’s pockets and letting families keep more of the dollars they earn. Tax cuts have been shown to stimulate the economy, attract new investment, and make our province a more attractive place for people to live, work or start a business. Discussion:
Should B.C. be looking at future tax reductions, exemptions or credits? What kinds of taxes should we consider reducing or creating new exemptions for: income tax, corporate taxes, sales taxes, or others? How useful are targeted tax credits or exemptions, such as a PST exemption for fuel-efficient cars, for average British Columbians?
