BC Day 2008 - Making Progress Together

An open letter to British Columbians:

On this B.C. Day, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on some of the reasons why we should all be proud to be British Columbians.

We live in a province of unparalleled beauty, with unparalleled promise and potential. A province that is positioned to lead Canada into the Pacific Century. A province where if you dream it, you can achieve it.

It's hard to believe that only a few years ago suffering under NDP mismanagement, we were not living up to our full potential. With a stagnant economy and inadequate services, people were losing hope and optimism for our future.

Today, that promise has been returned. Our economy is among the strongest in Canada, and that strength has allowed us to launch new initiatives to benefit children, families, seniors, and people in need.

These initiatives include expanding newborn baby screening for more than three times as many disorders to avoid lifelong health issues. It includes expanding the Shelter Aid for Elderly Renters grant to ensure almost 20,000 lower income seniors can afford to choose where they want to live. It includes investing $360 million to assist the homeless and those in need of supportive housing.

The progress made by the BC Liberal Team led by Premier Gordon Campbell has been remarkable. And it's because of the Team, all 46 MLAs, that we enjoy the success we see today.

I'd encourage you to watch our new "Making Progress Together" video, highlighting the work of the BC Liberal Team in making B.C. the best it can be.

Have a wonderful B.C. Day, and together, let's celebrate our province's success.

Sincerely,

Mickey Patryluk
