The Real Story on Hospital Facilities

ABBOTSFORD - The BC Liberal Government has committed a total of $2.8  billion in health capital spending from 01-02 to 07-08, for improvements to hospitals and health facilities across B.C. These include new hospitals and facilities, as well as renovations, expansions and upgrades:

  • Nanaimo Regional General Hospital - expanded operating rooms, MRI, building addition;
  • Prince George Regional Hospital - expanded and renovated, new ER, new medical teaching space, expanded medical imaging space for new MRI;
  • Royal Inland Hospital, Kamloops - new ER, new medical imaging space;
  • Vancouver General Hospital, Pattison Pavilion - opened;
  • Mills Memorial Hospital, Terrace - ER/ICU renovated, renal dialysis expanded, psychiatric unit renovated;
  • Bulkley Valley District Hospital, Smithers - ER renovated;
  • Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre - new facility;
  • Vancouver General Hospital, Academic Ambulatory Care Centre - new facility;    
  • St. Paul's Hospital, Vancouver - ER renovated, cardiac services redesigned, critical care renovated, ICU upgrade;
  • Whistler Health Centre - ER renovated;
  • Creston Valley Hospital - renal dialysis expanded, hospital redevelopment;
  • Kelowna General Hospital - renal dialysis expanded, MRI building addition, new operating room, renovated maternity;
  • Penticton Regional Hospital - renal dialysis expanded;
  • Surrey Memorial Hospital - renal dialysis expanded, renovations for new MRI;
  • Prince George medical school campus - opened;
  • Victoria medical school campus - opened;
  • Iris House, Prince George - mental health facility expanded;
  • Seven Sisters, Terrace - mental health facility;
  • Okanagan House, Vernon - mental health facility renovated;
  • Yucalta Lodge, Campbell River - new mental health beds;
  • South Hills, Kamloops - new mental health facility;
  • Penticton - new mental health facility;
  • Royal Columbian Hospital, New Westminster - new medical teaching space, renal dialysis expanded, new medical imaging space, new helipad  for trauma centre;
  • Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria - new medical teaching space, new renal unit, MRI renovations;
  • Victoria General Hospital - new medical teaching space, medical imaging expanded;
  • Burnaby Hospital - palliative care renovated;
  • Langley Memorial Hospital - acute care upgraded;
  • Ridge Meadows Hospital - renovations for new CT scanner;
  • Eagle Ridge Hospital, Port Moody - renovations for new CT scanner;
  • Cranbrook - new mental health facility;
  • Harbour House, Trail - additional mental health beds;
  • Kootenay Lake Regional Hospital, Nelson - renovated maternity space, renovated lab space;
  • Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital, Clearwater - new health care centre;
  • Golden and District General Hospital - major upgrading;
  • Thompson Park Mall, Kamloops - new primary health centre;
  • Kimberley Primary Health Care Centre - renovated;
  • Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital, Trail - new ambulatory care unit;
  • Vernon Jubilee Hospital - renovated maternity;
  • Lakes District Hospital, Burns Lakes - renovations;
  • Chetwynd General Hospital - renovations;
  • North Peace Care Centre, Fort St. John - renovations;
  • Fort St. John General Hospital - redevelopment and renovations;
  • Mackenzie and District Hospital - renovations;
  • Bulkley Lodge, Smithers - renovations;
  • Omineca Lodge, Vanderhoof - new multilevel care facility;
  • Houston Health Centre - renovations;
  • Prince Rupert Regional Hospital - redesign;     
  • Children's and Women's Health Centre, Vancouver - renovated 3rd floor, labour & delivery room, and neonatal nursery;
  • BC Cancer Agency, Vancouver - new replacement linear accelerators, MRI renovations, new radiation therapy annex;
  • Bamfield Outpost Hospital - new site;
  • Bella Coola General Hospital - facility upgrade;
  • Lions Gate Hospital, North Vancouver - MRI building addition, pharmacy renovations;
  • Richmond General Hospital - upgrades to 8 operating rooms, palliative care renovated, surgical day care expanded, medical imaging renovations;
  • Dr. Peter Centre, Vancouver - new residential bed facility;
  • Mt. St. Joseph Hospital, Vancouver - new ICU beds, renovations;
  • Vancouver General Hospital - renovated for new MRI, renovated ER, new ICU beds;
  • UBC Health Sciences Centre - new operating rooms;
  • Powell River General Hospital - renovations;
  • Campbell River Hospital - pharmacy upgrade;
  • Lady Minto Hospital, Ganges - operating room expanded, new palliative care suite;
  • Mount St. Mary Hospital, Victoria - new multi-level care facility;
  • Cormorant Island Health Centre, Alert Bay - new replacement facility;
  • St. Joseph's General Hospital, Comox - renovated for new CT scanner;
  • Cowichan District Hospital, Duncan - renovated for new CT scanner, ER renovated;
  • Saanich Peninsula Hospital - CT scanner renovation, ER redevelopment.
