Teachers and Parents can E-mail de Jong on School Concerns

Vancouver – BC Liberal candidate Mike de Jong has set up a new e-mail account so that parents and teachers can contact him with their concerns about partisan politicking in the schools – speakout@bcliberals.com.

De Jong has heard new stories since he addressed the media on Monday morning about the tactics used by the BC Teachers’ Federation to politicize our public schools.

“Since yesterday, parents have come forward about aggressive BCTF tactics at parent advisory council meetings and teachers have raised concerns about in-school politicking on Pro-D days,” said de Jong.

De Jong committed that teachers and parents who submit information can do so confidentially.

“Many parents and teachers feel intimidated by the aggressive tactics that are taking place in our schools and have been afraid to speak out.  They can contact me directly to raise their concerns without fear of backlash,” said de Jong.

De Jong reiterated the BC Liberals’ platform commitment to legislate a ban on inappropriate partisan activities in our public schools.

“Distributing partisan information, including NDP fundraising letters, through our public schools is wrong and we will act on it after May 17th,” said de Jong.
