The Real Story on the Environment

The NDP Record

The BC Liberal Record

Burns Bog

Tried to pave Burns Bog instead of saving it. In 1999, the NDP gave a $25 million government loan to turn the bog into an entertainment complex.

Burns Bog

We preserved and protected Burns Bog forever – just like we said we would. This is an area 5 times the size of Stanley Park.

Sumas II gas fired plant

Sat idly by and did nothing to stop the Sumas 2 power plant. In 2000 NDP Premier Dosanjh admitted his Environment Minister stating she “was a bit late coming out of the gate”

Sumas II gas fired plant

We stood up against the US and fought against Sumas 2 power plant in Washington State that would have added to the pollution in the Fraser Valley and Lower Mainland.

Did nothing to regulate ground water well construction even though they had a 1993 report telling them to do so.

At the end of the NDP mandate B.C. was the only jurisdiction in North America that did not have groundwater regulations.

We introduced a $16 million Drinking Water Action Plan and a $120 million BC Community Water Improvement Program.

Brought in comprehensive Groundwater Protection Regulations.
