A Message from the Premier
"The ten women MLAs that we have make a great contribution to the caucus. I want our party to be sure that women have an active role in public life and that they continue to provide leadership in the party, in the caucus and in the BC Liberal Government. We want to represent the best that BC has to offer - that includes our province's leading women."
Gordon Campbell
Premier of British Columbia
Leader, British Columbia Liberal Party
About the BC Liberal Women's Commission
The purpose of the Women's Commission is to empower women throughout BC and to encourage them to get actively involved in policy development, in party initiatives and in seeking elected office in the next provincial election.
The Women's Commission will support women in all their efforts including nominations through support services and fundraising.
The Women's Commission will offer the opportunity for an exchange of ideas on policy issues and will offer support in presenting these ideas both within and outside the BC Liberal Party.
Events & Activities
With the next provincial election in May 2009, the Women's Commission is focused on encouraging women of all ages to become involved with the political process and help to ensure that the number of women in office increases. As women, we need to become part of the solution, to ensure that our voices and our opinions are known and heard. One of our new programs to help accomplish this goal is our "Phone & Learn" initiative. This program allows our current Women's Commission members have an opportunity to teleconference with a different MLA on a monthly basis. Notices go to our current membership via emails prior to the teleconference with the necessary information. These are becoming very popular and gives members a chance to hear directly from MLAs and ask pertinent questions.
