Premier Bets Governor on Canucks First-Round Victory
April 11, 2007

Vancouver – Premier Gordon Campbell said today he will be cheering for the Vancouver Canucks as they face the Dallas Stars in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs and has bet Texas Governor Rick Perry 20.10 lbs. of B.C. beef that the Canucks will advance.

“I know that all British Columbians will be waving their white towels and cheering for the Canucks as they take on the Dallas Stars,” said Campbell. “General manager David Nonis and the entire Canucks organization have built an exciting team and I’m confident they will advance past the Dallas Stars.”

The Canucks finished first in the Northwest Division and will have home-ice advantage for the series. Vancouver and Dallas were 2-2 in their regular season series and every game ended with a score of 2-1.

“Both these teams play similar styles and have a lot in common, just as British Columbia and Texas have a lot in common,” said Campbell. “With that in mind, I’m betting Governor Perry 20.10 lbs of B.C. beef that we’ll defeat the Stars and advance to the Western Conference semi-finals and also to remind him that British Columbia is hosting the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.”
