Comments in the wake of the NDP’s Facebook fiasco prove once again that after weeks of talking the talk on technology and social networking, the NDP and their values are truly out-of-step with regular British Columbians. In the Globe and Mail this morning, NDP President Jeff Fox said the following in the wake of the Ray Lam resignation: “Most British Columbians don't understand Facebook as a social networking tool. I come from a different generation and I don't fully understand Facebook.”
How off the mark is he? Well according to Facebook, there are over 1.3 million Facebook users over 18 years of age in British Columbia alone.
Of those users, nearly 100,000 are over 55 years of age.
And those numbers are growing every single day.
The BC Liberals believe that British Columbians understand the power of social media as a tool to learn more about candidates and issues in this campaign. And we will continue to promote its use through our Digital Activist program on Facebook and Twitter.
Meanwhile, Carole James and her NDP appear to be more interested in talk than commitment when it comes to reaching out British Columbians. Much like their approach to the economy, their view on technology is stuck in the 1990s.
P.S.: Could someone please fax this bulletin to Mr. Fox at NDP headquarters at 604-432-9517?
